Gunfire in Lynn, Massachusetts, prompted police to issue a shelter-in-place order Wednesday, but it didn't lead to the arrest of the shooter. The lockdown was lifted after about an hour, but the shooter wasn't in custody, according to Lynn police. They didn't think anyone was hit by the bullets that rang out about 11:31 a.m. on Commercial Street. While Lynn residents and students were no longer being told to stay inside, police still urged them to be vigilant in the wake of the shooting. "This appears to be a targeted shooting and not random. We encourage residents to be vigilant and to keep your doors locked. We ask everyone that has security video to check their cameras during and after this incident," they said in a Facebook post. They also shared images of a person in a hooded sweatshirt and track shoots with a gun. People in the area of Commercial Street, South Street and Market Square had been told to secure their homes and shelter in place, as well...

The Lynn Police have completed an extensive search of the area with the Mass State Police. The suspect has not been located. This appears to be a targeted shooting and not random. We encourage residents to be vigilant and to keep your doors locked. We ask everyone that has security video to check their cameras during and after this incident that occurred at 11:31 AM this morning on Commercial Street. We are authorizing the release of the shelter in place at area schools and surrounding neighborhoods due to the large Lynn and Mass State Police presence that will remain in this area. Shots were fired on Wednesday in Lynn, Massachusetts, and police issued a shelter-in-place as they searched for the gunman. Officers with the Lynn Police Department did not believe anyone was hit by the bullets that rang out on Commercial Street. People in the area of Commercial Street, South Street and Market Square were told to secure their homes and shelter in place, as well as those around the Lynn Commons and abutting streets. The gunman was believed to be on foot.
